The Parkinson Society BC Penticton Regional Conference will take place at the Lakeside Resort June 14 and 15th. I'll be guiding yoga and qigong classes at the conference on June 15th. Studies have found that “...Qigong exercise is a viable alternative treatment with long-term benefits in improving physical coordination and balance abilities, thus contributing to the quality of life of patients with PD.”

Flow is everywhere—the gentle rise and fall of the breath, the shifting seasons, the cycles of day and night. It moves through our bodies, our thoughts, and our emotions. When we resist flow, we struggle. But when we move with it, we find ease.
Through qigong, we cultivate a deep connection to this natural flow, learning to move in harmony with it rather than against it. My classes blend the grounding, balancing forms of qigong with the fluid transitions of yoga, creating a practice that feels seamless, intuitive, and alive.
My hope is that through this embodied approach, we not only move with greater grace in class but also carry that sense of presence, joy, and flow into our daily lives.
Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching
This is a short demo of what a Qigong-Inspired Yoga Flow could be like in one of my classes. The first flow is more easeful and the second flow goes a tad deeper with some of the poses.
As a bonus, my golden doodle makes a cameo appearance. She loves qigong, too!
Check out these commonly asked questions.
There are many ways to answer this question! By its simplest definition, Qigong (pronounced “chee-gung”) is the cultivation of life energy. When practiced regularly, Qigong has been found to have the potential to manage one’s energy levels, health, and life balance through movement, intention, visualization, and breathing techniques. I also like the definition of Qigong as a practice that moves qi through the body in and unobstructed way.
If you're interested in movement, meditation, preventative medicine, and self-cultivation Qigong could be for you.
No previous experience is necessary for my Qigong workshops. All ages and abilities are welcome! If you'd like to practice seated rather than standing, please let me know and I'll have a chair ready for you.
Here are my top three go-to's at the moment:
I went to my first yoga and qigong classes in 1994. This was also around the same time I started studying Taoism and Buddhism. I was in university and was eager to try everything! Buddhism has been a major part of my life ever since those early days and has shaped my perspective more than any other influence in my life.
Yoga came and went over the years, but there was something about it that kept drawing me back. I started taking my yoga studies more seriously when I moved to Penticton in 2017. It was a way for me to be a part of and give back to my community. Since then, I received my RYT-500 certification from the South Okanagan Yoga Academy and have had the privilege of leading vinyasa classes at several studios and facilities in Penticton.
I am currently studying qigong with Mimi Kuo-Deemer. Qigong has been a way for me to bring together my two loves: meditation and movement. It is a practice that respects where I am in my life and a practice that I'll be able to do well into my golden years.
